Why I create art.

If everyone on the planet disappeared, would art exist?

Art is not a thing, it is a dance between artist and viewer.

Art isn’t a representation of reality—it creates a reality, colored not by pigments alone, but by our cultural interpretations.

The world of my art is a world of interpretation, American-style. We do not see simply a fox dressed as a man, we see deceit. A man with a microphone or his arms outstretched becomes a manipulator. Abstract lines on a piece of paper become the mass mentality of a crowd. We see these images this way because we have been born into these perceptions.

Our minds and bodies react automatically to the images we see. We find it difficult to stay neutral. Viewers laugh, cry, agree, disagree, become angry or indignant or nauseated or thrilled, cheer, curse, like or hate the work. They may become dismissive. Without realizing that all artwork elicits at least an internal commentary, some may assert that art shouldn’t make social commentary. They have entered into my world and begun the dance with me.
